Position Title: Surface Water Operator II
Salary: Commensurate with Experience; Minimum $27.00 Hourly
JOB SUMMARY
The Surface Water Operator II position is a progressive experience position responsible for monitoring equipment, operating equipment, recording data, collecting samples, and system process control, in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyzes and monitors potable water production and treatment. Identifies and implements process adjustments to ensure optimum performance of plant.
- Operates and maintains process equipment at facilities.
- Checks engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other equipment.
- Records readings, regulates and adjusts processes to meet changing operational needs.
- Collects, preserves, and properly samples for laboratory analysis.
- Monitors and performs housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment.
- Performs basic process control measurements.
- Lubricates, dismantles, and assembles parts and equipment.
- Participates in the troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of a variety of equipment including pumps, piping and valves.
- Calculate basic level mathematics.
- Properly handles chemicals necessary for the water treatment process.
- Understands emergency response procedures.
- Performs maintenance on membrane filtration system, and all other appurtenances required for water treatment.
- Establishes and maintains effective public and working relationships.
- Participates in various special projects.
- Participates in after hour assigned/emergency work and is included in the on-call rotation.
- Understands and operates cell phones, iPads, and the internal SCADA system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING
- The Water Operator II works under general supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Class “C” Surface Water Treatment License or the ability to obtain a Class “C” Surface Water Treatment License within one year.
- 3 Years Experience in Surface Water Treatment.
- Able to use basic computer skills.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Drivers License consistent with CRWA driving policies.
- Pre-employment drug screening and background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds occasionally; pushing a maximum force of 55 pounds. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and a working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope.
- Working conditions can be outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather; water; mechanical, electrical, chemical and confined space hazards; offensive fumes; and animals, snakes and poisonous insects. Must use personal protective equipment. Operates a company vehicle when required.
